Economist Democracy Index 2024 Rank. The latest report, published on february 15th, shows that less than 8% of the world’s population live in full democracies, and that 39.4% are under authoritarian. 2024 is the biggest year for democracy in election history.
Ten countries have held, or suspended, elections. In terms of sheer numbers, many consider india to be the world’s largest democracy, based on its ranking as a flawed democracy and population of nearly 1.5 billion.
